thUMBox is more than a product — it's a movement to take intelligence back from the data center and put it on hardware people own. The community is where that gets built, argued about, and shared.
The cloud AI bargain is simple: they own the compute, so they own you. Every token is metered, every prompt may be logged, the price moves on someone else's schedule, and access can be revoked without notice. We think that's backwards.
Intelligence should run on hardware you own, on your network, under your control. Fixed cost instead of a meter. Private by construction instead of by policy. You own the economics, and you own the data — not as a feature we grant, but as a property of where the computation physically happens.
And what one person can own, a community can share. The same boxes that free you from the data center can, together, become a cloud of their own — owned by its members, accountable to no one else. That's the world we're building toward, and it's built in the open.
